Part 2: Getting Started Using Logo Templates
Once you’ve downloaded your chosen template, you can begin customizing it with your logo and design. If you want some more information about this, check out our handy article. For now, let’s look at some top tips for working with logo indents.
One thing you need to be aware of when choosing your template is the design of the logo you want to use. Some logos are square, some rectangular, and some circular, they may also have a solid or transparent background. Similarly, templates are designed for different shapes and styles of logos; check the template example matches the type of logo design you are working with.
When it comes to logo indents, shorter is usually better. Remember, your viewer has come to watch the content of your video, not the logo animation, and if it lasts too long, they can easily give up and go elsewhere. Keep your logo animations to an appropriate length for the content you create.
If you are working with a client or creating a logo indent for someone else’s business, it is important that you keep their brand and image in mind. Sure, the neon glitchy logo is cool, but does it suit the beauty brand you are working with? Keep it simple and customize your logo accordingly.
Part 3: Learn How to Create Custom Logo Animations
Creating your logo animations from scratch can be a lot of fun, but how long it will take depends on your skill level and the complexity of your idea. Still, you can create some awesome logo animations without a lot of hassle. Check out this example.
Step 1: Set up your Canvas
Your first task is to set up your After Effects project and canvas. Since most logo animation will be used with standard HD videos, we suggest you set up the canvas as follows.
- Press Command/Control N to begin a new Composition.
- Enter a name for the composition, and make sure the size is set to 1920×1080.
- Finally, set the Composition duration.
Step 2: Add and Precompose your Logo
Precomposing is when you take assets in the timeline, and turn them into their own Composition. We do this with the logo layer so you can change the logo at a later time, without having to redo the animation.
- Press Command/Control + I to bring up the import menu. Navigate to your logo file, select it and click import.
- In the Project Browser, find your logo file and drag it to the timeline.
- Press S to open the scale settings, and resize the image to your preference.
- Select your logo layer in the timeline, and press Command/Control + Shift + C.
- Name the Composition and hit OK.
Step 3: Adding Masks
The Mask elements are what create the reveal to the logo. For this example, we are using circular masks, but you could use any shape you choose.
- Select the Ellipse Tool from the shapes menu.
- Hold Shift, and create a small circular mask on your logo. Move the Mask so it is central to your image.
- Select the Precomp in the timeline and press Command/Control + D to duplicate the layer.
