Producer Spotlight: Petrenj Music

We’ve got another great creator spotlight to share with the community today. This time, we are talking to Milos Petrenj of Petrenj Music, another one of our original music producers who was brought to the site by PaBlikMM.

Milos has produced well over 100 tracks for Motion Array including everything from punk anthems, to folky ukulele tunes, to cinematic piano scores. His range of talent is as wide as his musical tastes. Let’s see what he had to say about the art of making stock music in a small town in Europe.

Tell us a little about your background.

“My name is Miloš and I am from Serbia. It’s a small country on the crossroads between central and southeast Europe. I live in a small town called Vlasotince, with my wife and my son. After a lot of different, mostly hard and not well-paid jobs, few years ago, I decided to quit all of that and start to do the only thing I love and understand…music.”

How did you get started playing music?

“When I was a young kid, maybe around 10 years old, an older girl from my neighborhood gave me a cassette. There were some strange songs and music on it.”

“I had never heard anything like that before. It was Alice Cooper and AC/DC.”

“Immediately after that, I started to be fascinated with rock music, guitars and all of that.

I was begging my mother to buy me a guitar, but with no success. A year or two after that, somehow I bought my first guitar and started playing all by myself. There was no one to teach me about all of those chords, riffs, and the rest. But I had a really big wish to learn to play the guitar, and still do.”

What instruments do you play and do you have a favorite?

“My main instrument is guitar. Now I have a few guitars, 6 actually, but I also play drums and I really love to do that. Of course, I don’t have enough time for that. But still, it is somehow relaxing.

When I started with stock music, I saw in the process of composing and recording that MIDI keyboard is the primary instrument, which makes it much easier. I bought a MIDI keyboard, but I found that I didn’t have enough time and will to learn something I had never played before. And now, I still draw in my DAW piano roll like some caveman.”

How long have you been producing stock music tracks?

“If I count correctly, I’m already 4 years into my stock music journey.”

How did you get involved with Motion Array and why do you like producing here?

“I was already producing music for other marketplaces when my friend Pavel, also a producer on Motion Array, contacted me and told me that some guys were starting a new marketplace called Motion Array. They needed around 20 songs a month, so he asked me if I wanted to split the job with him. Together we worked on 10 songs each. At that time, it was nice and somehow challenging, because we got specific requests, like 3 corporate songs, 2 acoustic folk, and 5 indie rock, for example.

“One year later, Motion Array has established one serious marketplace with a lot more producers and a cool and nice community.”

What kinds of things do you do for fun outside of music?

“Outside of producing stock music, I’m with my family. I have a 4-year-old kid and I’m trying to teach him how to be a good man in this strange world.

Also, I have a rock band, I am the guitarist, singer, and lyric writer. We have rehearsals, make songs for our new album, book some dates for touring, and everything else that rock bands do to waste their time.”

Is there a lot of music being made where you live?

“I live in a small town in the south of Serbia. There isn’t plenty of anything, especially not music.

If there was not a nice river flowing through the city, this town would be like Twin Peaks. Sometimes I ask myself how the hell I can make such funny and cheerful songs.”

Do you have a favorite song or music you like to listen to for inspiration?

“Before I started with stock music, I was listening to a lot of music. Really a lot.

But probably, because now I’m producing my own music all the time, there is not much time to listen to anything else. And even when I find some time, I’m trying to spend it with my kid and wife. But still, I like to listen to some old records. I’m not a fan of new music that is played on tv and radio stations.”

Anything else you’d like to share?

“A few days ago I heard a nice quote from someone…

“Life is like a camera, so try to keep focus on important things.”

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”
