In this After Effects tutorial, you’ll learn a quick and easy way to smooth skin in After Effects without the need of third-party plugins. This is a very helpful technique if you have closeup footage of someone with blemishes or wrinkles.

Hey! What’s up, this is Eri from MotionArray.com and today I got this little trick, this quick and dirty trick that will help you smooth people’s faces in your pictures or your shots.
You know, I have to say that this might be the kind of situation where a plug-in or a De-Noiser may give you better results, but this way is fast. I like getting things done faster, so here it goes.
The first thing I am going to do is duplicate this layer twice and I am going to turn off these two layers right here and I am going to work with this bottom layer. Then, I am going to apply a “Fast Blur”. Then, I am going to do maybe a 5. I know what you’re thinking, “Well dude, that’s just a blur right? That’s not amazing,” and that’s true but here it is.
Here is where things change, I am going to turn on this second layer and now I am going to apply a “Set Matte”. Instead of “Use for Matte, Alpha Channel” we are going to switch that over to “Red” and I also have to “Invert Matte”. As you can see, now there is some detail back in it. If I turn this off and on you can see that the eyes come back. If I turn off this bottom layer you can see what’s going on there right?
Another thing that you can do is add a “Levels” and switch is off to “Alpha.” Now, you can mess with the settings to either bring back or remove detail.
So yeah, as you can see this a really good way to do this. Hopefully, you can get stuff done faster and who doesn’t like that, right? I want to get this done right now so there you go!
