Hello everyone, and welcome to this Motion Array After Effects tutorial. In this tutorial I am going to show you how to customize one of our text-based After Effects templates. So, here we are in After Effects with our template open and you will notice in the Project Panel that we have one main folder and inside of that we have three other subfolders. Now, we are only concerned with the Edit folder and the Render folder.

So, the first thing I want to do is edit the text in this template. I am going to open up the Edit Comps folder and the Text folder, and I’m going to double click on the Text 01 composition. After it opens up in the Timeline, I’m going to double click the text layer and change the text to Mayonnaise Pickles. If we open the Render folder and double click the Final Composition, we can now see our text in place. The next step is to continue editing all the text comps in the project. Now, please note that these are numbered as they appear in the animation and for time’s sake I’m going to skip this step.

Inside the Edit Comps folder there is also an Image folder. In this case this template has a placeholder for an image at the very end. I’ll go ahead and add in a logo. To do so I’m going to click File, Import, File. I’m going to select the logo I’d like to use and click Open. Now you can see the logo in the Project Panel, and the next step is to insert it into the template. I’m going to double click on the Logo composition and after it opens in the Timeline I’m going to drag my logo from the Project Panel into the Timeline. If I open the Final Composition and scrub through the Timeline we can now see that the logo has been added to the template.

If the template you’re working with has the ability to customize the colors you will see a Color folder inside the Edit folder. I want to change the color of this template so I’m going to double click on the Color composition. After it opens in the Timeline I’m going to highlight the color control layer and press E on the keyboard. That will bring up all of the customizable color options. I want to change this orange to a deep blue, and I’ll change this yellow to a pure white. That looks pretty good. I’ll go with that.

We’re now ready to render this template. To do so I’m going to double click on the Final Composition and after it opens in the Timeline I’m going to come up to Composition, Make Movie. We’ve now added our final composition to the Render Queue. The Render Queue is where we adjust all of our video’s compression settings. I’m going to click on the Output Module and change my format option to Photo JPEG. Photo JPEG compression will give us a nice high quality render without the really large file size. Next I’m going to click on the “Output To” option. This is where we tell After Effects where we want our video to go. I’ll just choose my Desktop and click Save, and now I’m ready to click Render.

So, that’s about it. That’s how you customize one of our text-based After Effects templates. If you have any questions feel free to contact us. Thanks for watching, and we hope you learned something.
